the immigrant..

mixing things is cool! it may have some pretty interesting, tip-top results. when it comes to food it gets way better. “nikkei” cuisine is the lovin’ outcome of a fusion among Peruvian ingredients with Japanese techniques. Japanese immigrants to Peru are to “blame”. thanks a bunch you guys! “nikkei”(the immigrant in Japanese) the new hip restaurant in town, is a warm, fun place based on stone, Peruvian textiles and colors.

start the right way, by tasting an aromatic sea bass ceviche with sweet potato and corn, then some tender scallops with shiitake mushrooms and garlic – mayonnaise aioli, some spicy aji amarillo chilies marinated chicken skewers(anticucho), some alternative bao buns with papada de iberico(pork iberico), some piquant kimchi(seasoned vegetables) marinated sea bass skewers and a finely textured, thin flap steak.

3 times 5 equals innovative food..

what happens when you mix elements from 3 completely different countries like Spain, Peru and Japan? you get “cinco”(number 5 in Spanish) with its unique creations. for most of us it would sound completely crazy to even think of blending such different ingredients and techniques but not for the inspiring chef of “cinco”. it really is a tapas bar restaurant that serves some of the most extravagant food around town. if you like to try and taste new things, like me, this is definitely your place. some of the plates i ordered were tuna jamon, crispy bread with cecina(meat salted and dried), milk skin and carrots in tiger’s milk, potato shaped yuca(root) with egg vinaigrette, gunkan(sushi) topped with tobiko(fish eggs) and urchin, black cod with aji amarillo(Peruvian yellow chile pepper), iberico pork rib, oxtail with eggplant, honey miso and goat cheese and Peruvian chicken yakitori. i guess that for most of the words above you need a dictionary but do not worry because, lucky for you, all you have to do is taste them. and they are damn delicious! as a bar “cinco” offers really nice cocktails and vibes too. you can also choose to sit outdoors. so go challenge your senses and triple your satisfaction.

“blue bamboo” the emperor’s Thai..

i love Thai, you love Thai, they love Thai, we all love Thai! as a spicy food lover there is nothing better for me than a hot curry. so it was just a matter of time to visit the new hip Thai restaurant in town. it is located in an area that i have already mentioned in an earlier review. it’s really a neighborhood full of aroma and flavors. “blue bamboo”, despite its name that is also the common name of the emperor’s bamboo, is minimal and cosy. it offers an open view of the kitchen, where all magic takes place. this time i sat inside in a kind of private corner, in front of a huge open window; looking outside of course. i ordered some chicken skewers, spring rolls, noodles with shrimps and egg and my favorite; beef panang curry. i have to admit that those last two were simply delicious! i need to taste them again soon. i would suggest you choose to drink a Japanese beer or a cocktail. so visit this interesting new place because after all emperors always eat well. oh! and because the lady chef is really cute!

i like it raw..

i am not really a crazy meat lover. but when i heard about this new restaurant in town called “to kreas” ; the meat in Greek, i had to try it. i found it in a very friendly old neighborhood of Athens. it seemed like an area with a lot of action, subject to a weird kind of food frenzy! of course i chose a sweet little table outdoors. if you visit this place at night and the weather permits it, ask to sit on the beautiful terrace. as you can easily guess, meat is the highlight of this restaurant. i had an excellent fillet of beef and a black angus steak, all cooked as per my taste in a josper oven. as a starter i ordered a refreshing quinoa salad and some crunchy courgette sticks. the real surprise though, was two desserts, a banoffee and a “broken” mille-feuille with ice cream that truly fixed my day. so go visit this place because sometimes all you need is a steak!

“stay hungry bitch”.. NOT..

i visited a new hip place in Athens. it is in Vouliagmeni area and it surely has an interesting name; “stay hungry bitch”. do not be fooled by this quote, because ordering too many dishes, will overfeed your body and soul and finally leave you with a stomachache. the portions at this restaurant are really big! you can try things like, vietnamese rolls with tuna, rice balls with cuttlefish ink and squid, black cod tacos, and meat like black angus and many more. you will enjoy a kind of a gourmet street food blend listening to some really nice music. so this is what i suggest “stay hungry at least one day before you visit this place bitches”!
